A HOODOO

About 10 o'clock this morning a negro by the name of Dick Waggoner appeared before Justice Hinkle and swore out a peace warrant for another brunette citizen by the name of Henry Davis, alleging that he (Davis) had threatened to kill at least one negro by the name of Waggoner.  Davis was arrested and states that the threats were made in self defense and that he can prove by competent witnesses Waggoner is a "hoodoo" doctor, and that he has been seen with a white woman and had a two-pound chunk of loadstone in his pocket, and that he had been the direct cause of more than one little disaster in the neighborhood in which he lived.  The story of Waggoner's ghastly possession is, of course, all bosh, but it is certainly a fact that he has created a considerable commotion among the colored population who live near him, and he seems to be held in awe.
