- William Herman Voekle, 78, former pioneer resident of Sherman, died
at the Pilot Point Hospital Monday at 5:45 p.m., after an illness of
four months.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at
the Ethel Church of Christ. George Henry Stephenson, Wichita
Falls Church of Christ minister, will conduct. The body will
remain at the home until time for services.
Pallbearers will be
Grady Carter, Johnnie Maglaughlin, Lowing gooding, Herbert Young, Joe
Scroggins and J.B. McWhorter. Burial will be in the Ethel
Cemetery, directed by Barrett Funeral Home, Sherman.
Mr. Voekle was
born at Genoa, Ohio, April 24, 1870, the son of Jacob and Sybilla Rose
Voekle. He was married to Sarah Ann McKelroy, at Tioga, Dec. 26,
1892.
He came to Texas in 1877 from Ohio,, moving to Sherman.
He first lived in a house located on the present site of ther
Sherman post office. He later bought a section of land near
Ethel, where he reared his family. He was a member of the Woodmen
of ther World for 551 years. At the time of his death he was a
member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Collinsville.
Survivors incvlude:
his wife; three sons, O.A. Voekle, Houston; W.E. Voekle and John J.
Voekle, both of Ethel; two daughters, Mrs. John Morris, Dallas and Miss
Cleo Voekle, Ethel; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews.

William H. Voelkle, 78, Given Burial at Ethel
Collinsville, Tx. June 16 - Funeral services were held Wednesday
at the Ethel Baptist Church for William Herman Voekle [sic] , 78, pioneer
resident of Sherman and an early settler of Ethel Community, east of here.
Voekle died Monday in a Pilot Point Hospital after a 4-month illness. Burial
was in the Ethel Cemetery.
Voekle came to Texas in 1877 from Ohio, settling in Sherman in a
house which now holds the present Sherman Post Office. A few years later
Voekle purchased a section of land near Ethel, where he had resided since.
He was a member of the Collinsville Odd Fellows Lodge and had been a member
of the Woodmen of the World fifty-one years.
He is survived by his wife;
three sons, O.A. Voekle of Houston, W.E. Voekle and John J. Voekle of the
Ethel Community; two daughters; Mrs. J. N. Morris of Dallas and Miss Cleo
Voekle of Ethel; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
