17 Dec 1951 J. M. Bates Dies at Collinsville. Sherman, Texas Dec 16 - Jethro M. Bates, 69, who had farmed in the Ethel Community for forty-two years, died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clifton Davidson of Collinsville Route 1. He had been ill two years. Funeral services are to be held at 2pm Monday at the Ethel Presbyterian Church, east of Collinsville, with the Rev. W.O. Parr of Fort Worth officiating. Burial will be in the Ethel Cemetery. Bates was born April 6, 1882, in Tennessee, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John R. Bates. he was married to Miss Bessie Sparkman Sept. 11, 1907, in Tennessee. He came to Grayson County in 1907. Bates was a member of the Collinsville Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Finis Bates and Paul Bates, both of Sherman; one daughter, Mrs. Clifton Davidson of Collinsville Route 1; two brothers, Alva Bates of San Antonio and Otto Bates of Collinsville, and four grandchildren. Jethro M. Bates Rites Held at Ethel Monday Funeral services were held Monday at the Ethel Presbyterian Church for Jethro M. Bates, 69, who farmed in that community for the past 42 years. He died Sunday at 3:30 a.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Clifton Davidson in Collinsville. The Rev. W.O. Parr of Fort Worth conducted the services. Pallbearers were Kenneth Williams, Russ Anderson, Johnnie McGehee, Clifford McGehee, Felix Williams and Bill Voekle. Burial was in the Ethel cemetery, conducted by Waldo Funeral Home. Mr. Bates was born in Tennessee, April 6, 1882, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John R. Bates. On Sept. 11, 1907, he was married to Miss Bessie Sparkman. He came to Grayson County in Nov. 1907. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Order. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Finis Bates and Paul Bates, both of Sherman; a daughter, Mrs. Clifton Davidson of Collinsville; two brothers, Alva Bates of San Antonio and Otto Bates of Collinsville.
