J.G. Thompson Funeral Service
Joseph Granville Thompson, 77-year-old retired farmer, died at 8 p.m. Thursday at a local hospital after five days illness. His home was at 329 West Houston. Services were to be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at the Ethel Baptist church, with the Rev. C. Chumbley, Baptist minister at Howe, officiating, assisted by the Rev. S.P. Stiles, Methodist minister at Whitesboro. Interment was to be in the Ethel cemetery, directed by Talley. Mr. Thompson was born Nov. 27, 1863, near Montgomery, Ala. He moved to Arkansas from his native state and resided there a short time before coming to Texas 50 years ago. He had resided in Grayson county 40 years and in Sherman seven years. He was a member of the Baptist church. Survivors include four sons, H.L. Thompson of Sherman, route 1; M.F. Thompson of Collinsville route 1; J.M. Thompson of Silverton, and W.T. Thompson of Denison; three daughters, Mrs. W.F. Hathaway and Mrs. Jewel Stiles of Dallas, and Mrs. E.L. Hollis of Sherman; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
