Howe, Texas -- Services
for Dorothy L. Kirby, 86, of Howe, who went to be with her Lord and
Savior on Saturday, May 14 at Homestead of Denison, will be held
Tuesday, May 17, 2:00 p.m. at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne,
Texas. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral at 1:00
p.m. Graveside services will follow at Elliott Cemetery in
Gunter, Texas. Rev. Wallace Rains of New Beginnings will
officiate.
Pallbearers will be Brent Kirby, Kelly Morris, Justin Morris, Daniel Riojas, Daniel Riojas Jr., Tyler Scruggs and Ben Robinson.
Dorothy
was born December 13, 1929 to Claytis Allen “Buster” Jones and Jonnie
Luella “Donnie” (Davis) Jones in Paducah, Texas. She was married
to Cancil Kirby, July 16, 1948 in Van Alstyne, Texas. They were
married for 55 years prior to his death.
Dorothy worked for
Burlington Industries for 36 years, retiring from the Sherman plant in
1986. She and Cancil loved gospel and country music. They
played for many nursing homes in the area, as well as organizing a
weekly show at the Howe Community Center for many years. They
loved people and enjoyed the fellowship of many folks they came to feel
were extended family members.
Dorothy was also known as Dot, Mom,
but mostly as Mawmaw to anyone who knew her. She lived a
Christian life of example and would help anyone in need. She
truly sought the best in people and loved unconditionally.

L. Kirby is survived by her son, Roger Kirby and wife Charlene of Elm
Mott; daughter, Kristy Morris and husband John of Van Alstyne;
grandchildren, Brent Kirby and wife Pam of Howe, Melanie Riojas and
husband Daniel of China Spring, Lisa Kirby of Waco, Kelly Morris and
wife Leisha of Waxahachie, Justin Morris of San Antonio;
great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Whitney Kirby of Howe, Daniel and
Lauryn Riojas of China Spring, Tyler Scruggs and Brooklyn Kirby of
Waco, Leyton, Laikli and Locklyn Morris of Waxahachie; brother, Bill
Jones and wife Tina of Southmayd; numerous nephews and nieces.
Dorothy
was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cancil; son Larry Kirby;
brother: Claytis Allen “Son” Jones; sisters Bernice Williams,
Georgia Bledsoe and Jonnie Jones.
Services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory, 637 W. Van Alstyne Parkway, Van Alstyne, Texas
