Joe Ed Webb
Funeral services were held at the Pilgrim's Rest Baptist church, in the Burk community, West from Van Alstyne, on Sunday afternoon, March 7, for Joe Ed Webb, 56, who died at his home in that community on March 6, following an illness which extended over several years. A large concourse of friends from Van Alstyne and other places attended the services, which were conducted by Rev. F. C. Dick, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne, and Rev. W. H. Ford of Fort Worth. The service was a most impressive one, many visible evidences being manifested of the grief felt at the departure of this splendid citizen and Christian. Interment was had at Elliott cemetery, the family burying ground. Pallbearers were as follows, all of them being nephews of the deceased: Joe Elliott, R. D. Elliott, Lester Elliott, Carey Webb, Weldon Webb, Leslie Elliott.
Mr. Webb was born in the State of Missouri on August 2, 1869, the son of William B. and Nancy Webb, both now deceased. At the age of four years, with his parents, he moved to Texas, settling in the Burk community and maintaining his home that place until his death. On November 2, 1898, he was married to Miss Nancy E. Elliott, daughter of the Mr. J.T. and Mrs. Elliott of Sherman, whom he is survived, with the daughters, Mrs. Maud Tolbert Sherman, Mrs. Laura Lee Kinsey Gunter and Miss Jimmie Elliott, living at home. At the age of 35, Mr. Webb became a member of the Baptist church, remaining a most devout adherent of that faith until his parting from earth. In both his public and private life, he was a man of highest character and was accorded the fullest measure of esteem and regard by all who knew him.
For more than 50 years, he had lived in this community and had ____ in its development and build up and the testimony, not of spoken words, but of the works which he wrought, in all of his relations in life, is the best possible testimonial of his worth as a man, and his caliber of citizen, husband, father, and adherent of the church.
To his family and other relatives, the sympathy of all of the people of this community goes out in their bereavement.
