  George E. Umphress 1905 - 1963 Minnie L. Umphress 1908 - 1989 Van Alstyne Leader October 19, 1989 Services for Minnie Leora Umphress, 81, of Gunter were held Monday in Valley View Church of Christ in Gunter and burial in Elliott Cemetery.She died Oct. 12 in West Place Nursing Home. Mrs. Umphress was born in Van Alstyne, a daughter of J. C. Walker and Lillie G. Wood Walker, and married George E. Umphress on Feb. 2, 1928.She was a member of the Valley Church of Christ. Surviving are daughters, Lois Hanning of Van Alstyne, Dorothy Bush of Gainesville and Lillie Monk of Dorchester; son, George Umphress of Garland; sisters, Mildred Achimon of Van Alstyne, Melba Goforth of Mesquite, Marie Dhane of Dallas and Monnie Morris of Henrietta; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
