Oris G. SElby 1884 - 1973 h/o Stella Selby Stella Selby 1888 - 1923 Van Alstyne Leader November 1, 1923 November 8, 1923 MRS. ORIS SELBY Mrs. Stella Selby, wife of Oris Selby, died at the Sherman hospital on October 31 at 6 p.m. after having undergone an operation for appendicitis. Miss Stella Brooks was born on January 20, 1888. In December 1905 she was married to Oris Selby. To this union were born four children, two boys and two girls, of whom three survived. At the age of 15, Mrs. Selby was converted and became a communicant of the Baptist church, retaining her adherence to that fair until her death, and exemplifying her life all of the attributes of the consecrated and devout Christian. In the environment of the family as a member of the church, and as a citizen of this community, Mrs. Selby was at all times and in every way the ideal wife and mother, the exemplary Christian and the good neighbor and friend. We thought as we looked at her peaceful smiling face for the last time, "what a beautiful life her's was" and feel that this world will be better for the true christian life which she lived. Yes, it's so sad, dear Stella, for us to give you up and we will miss you from our midst, but we know you are happy and free of pain now, for there is no pain or sadness in the home of God's children. And what a sweet consolation that is. And we feel that you and the sweet little babe are rejoicing together in a home where there is no sad parting. Mrs. Selby left this word so quietly and peacefully, and was conscious until the last and seemed to know and realize that her time had come. Funeral services were conducted by Brother J. C. Skaggs of Sherman, at the Gunter Baptist church, November__ at 2 o'clock and attended by a large number of friends who knew and loved her. Burial was at the Elliott cemetery at 3:30 where we left her resting beneath a mound of beautiful flowers until the resurrection day. Now to the dear ones at home, we know you will miss her, but remember it was God's will and she is only gone on before to wait and welcome us. October 25 1923 INFANT DIES The
friends of Mr. and Mrs. O. G. Selby will sympathize with them in the
death of their infant child which occurred on Monday of this
week. The parents were greatly devoted to the little one, who
during its short life had gained many friends among older folk.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, with interment at the local
cemetery. Elliott Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 Grayson County TXGenWeb |
