Thursday, June 17, 1915 pg. 7 Gordonville Gossip Gordonville, June 15 - Gordonville and community is in sorrow at this time because of the death of one of its splendid young men, Marvin Brown, which occurred at the home of his parents last Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock after an illness of about five weeks. Although Collinsville has been his home since leaving here a few months ago, Gordonville still claimed him and he was an almost weekly visitor in our midst. The news of his death comes as a shock to his legions of old friends here and leaves a deep sorrow in our hearts and a sympathy for the bereaved parents, brother and sisters that simple words cannot express. Marvin was in Gordonville about five weeks ago, and was ill the morning he left here for Collinsville. He immediately went to bed and from it he was destined never to rise. He gradually became worse, in spite of all the attention that medical skill and hearts full of love could give him. Little hope has been entertained for his recover for the past week, so that his death has not been altogether unexpected. The remains were brought from Collinsville to the Dixie cemetery, south of town, last Monday afternoon and laid to rest in the presence of a large congregation of friends. Marvin was a boy that we all knew and loved. He was a manly, gentlemanly, moral young fellow, industrious, steady and possessed of the happy faculty of making friends wherever he was known. Had he lived until the 22nd of August, he would have reached his 20th birthday. It is hard to give up such splendid young lives as his, and difficult to understand why it is that they are taken from us. We know, though, there is an All-wise Father back of it all and that His purposes are not for us to understand at this time and His mandates to be unquestioned. Quite a large crowd of friends went out to Dixie last Monday afternoon to attend the funeral of Marvin Brown, mention of whose death is made elsewhere in these notes. Mr. and Mrs. Harper Brown of this community have been in Collinsville for several days during the past week being called to the bedside of their brother Marvin Brown, whose death is chronicled in these notes today. Clayton Jones and Mose McConnell of this place returned from Collinsville Monday to which place they had gone to the bedside of their friend, Marvin Brown. Marvin had just died when they reached his home. Dixie Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
