– Funeral services for James Wesley Davis, 84, will be held Thursday,
February 13, 2014, at 10 a.m., in the Meador Funeral Home Chapel in
Whitesboro, Texas with Chaplain Billy Williams and Rev. Andy Anderson
officiating. Interment will follow the services in Dixie Cemetery in
Whitesboro, Texas. Visitation services will be held on Wednesday,
February 12, from
6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He passed away on February 10, 2014 at the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham, Texas. “Jim” was born on May 16, 1929 in Grayson County, Texas. He proudly served his country for twenty three years in the U. S. Army, thirteen of which were spent overseas. He served in Korea, France, Japan, Germany, and Hawaii as well as various bases throughout the United States. After his military service, he was a security supervisor for Big Bear Groceries for twenty years. He was a member of the local VFW, Amvets, and the American Legion. He was a volunteer for the Bonham Veterans Hospital and a former volunteer for meals on wheels. James loved to serve. He married Wanda Faye Holley on May 28, 1994 in Sadler, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Davis, of Sherman; son, Bob Davis, of Columbus, OH; grandson, Zack Davis, of Columbus, OH; brothers: Charles Davis, of Southmayd; and Billy Davis and wife, Tina, of Dexter; sister, Helen Christman, of Cartwright, OK; step-sons: Mike Slayton, of Dallas; and Steve Slayton, of Dallas; six step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Mary “Rags” Phelps; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel “Bill” and Ada Stubblefield Davis; two brothers, Jr. Davis and Ben T. Davis; and one brother-in-law, Ed Christman. Pallbearers will be Ralph Mattingly, Bobby Morris, Darrell Nichols, Jerry Green, and Mike Cone.
