July 31, 1943 Former Teacher Dies Of Gunshot Wounds Denison, Texas, July 30. - Mrs. Otis L. Hillard, 33, former school teacher at Denison and other North Texas points, died instantly from a gunshot wound at her home here early Friday. Justice of the Peace E. A. Wright, who returned a verdict of suicide, said Mrs. Hillard was found sitting on a box in a bedroom closet with a 38-caliber rifle under her arm. Mrs. Hillard, formerly Miss Johnnie Lee Carlisle, was reared in McKinney. She is the daughter of former City School Supt. J.S. Carlisle and is a graduate of Texas State College for Women, She had taught school in McKinney, Bonham and Denison. Survivors are her husband and two sisters, Mrs. Jim Webb, Denton, and Mrs. Howard Marshal, Austin.
