ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
Mrs. Duford, living at the Gate City Hotel, attempted suicide Sunday evening by taking a large dose of laudanum.  Dr. White was sent for, and with the aid of proper restoratives, saved the lady's life.  From an intimate friend of the lady, our reporter has come in possession of certain facts that leave no doubt that the rash act was prompted by jealousy.
Mr. Duford is a stone mason, at present employed on Mr. John Ourand's new building.  Husband and wife have not been living very happily together for some time, and the trouble culminated in the rash attempt at suicide Sunday evening.  The lady now expresses great contrition,
and we have no doubt that Mr. and Mrs. Duford will live more happily together in the future, at least that is the wish of the News.
Suicide, to say the least, is a poor relief to apply to.

The News received rather a demonstrative call last evening from Mr. Duford, who thinks that a great injustice was done him in the statement that he was living unhappily with his wife; our authority we considered reliable.  Mr. Duford says that himself and wife are living happily together; we are glad of it, for it was certainly not our intention to place him in a wrong light before the community.
As a parting word of advise we will say, if a wrong is ever done, come in a gentlemanly manner and it will be corrected, for it has never been our intention to do anyone a deliberate injury.
