GIRL ARRESTED ON CHARGES OF FORGERY

Lula Paxton Arrested by Detectives
After Check Bearing Signature of Helen Robinson is Presented

A charge of forgery was filed Thursday against Lula Paxton, a 16-year-old Fort Worth girl, by Detective Ladd. The charge originated when the girl bought some goods Wednesday at the store of L. G. Gilbert, Third and Houston streets and presented a check $28.30 in payment.
The name of Helen Robinson was signed to the check. The cashier phoned detectives, and the girl was arrested. On the way down in the elevator she is said to have torn the check into pieces. The detectives picked up the parts and pieced them back together, however.
The girl has been held in the city jail since her arrest.

JUDGE and LAWYER WILL BE GUARDIANS OF CONVICTED GIRL

After Lulu Paxton, 17, had pleaded guilty to forgery and attempting to pass a forged instrument in the forty-eighth district court Tuesday morning and sentenced had been suspended, the jury, Judge R. H. Buck refuted to let the case pass out of his jurisdiction until he could be assured that the girl would have some place to go when she left the courtroom, which would keep her from drifting into evil ways.
W. D. House, one of the attorneys who had been connected with the case, agreed to take her to his home until a place could be found for her. Judge Buck approved the arrangement and said he would also keep an eye on the girl as she would be near his home.
The girl's father is dead and she had not been living at home because she could not get along with her step father. She admitted to trying to pass a check for $28.30 at the L. Gilbert store early in August.
