October 31, 1893 Sherman Siftings In the case of Frank Stephenson, charged with the murder of Sebe Davis and Joe Prigmore, defendant made a statement. It was in substance that he was returning home from Pilot Grove when he saw Davis, Prigmore and young Fagan coming: it was where the roads forked, and that he tried to avoid them, but did not succeed; that Davis got on one side of him and Prigmore on the other; that Davis got down off his mule and that he heard one of them say, "Now we have got him"; he happened to turn his attention from Davis and saw Prigmore in the very act of drawing a pistol and that he fired at Prigmore. He then began shooting at Davis and fired three shots; Davis was at the time trying to get a pistol; he did not see the pistol, but saw the butt of something; he believed his life to be in danger. He detailed a number of times when he was abused by the deceased parties, and told the names of the parties who had told him of threats made against him by them. Mrs. Stephenson testified that since her husband had been struck on the head, six or seven years ago, he had not had his right mind as before and that his health generally was poor.
