July 30, 1951 Willis Vincent, 47, of Denison, was shot to death Saturday night in a Denison club after an argument over 2 beer checks. Police arrested a Denison man. The Dallas Morning News Thursday, August 2, 1951 pg. 19 DENISON MAN CHARGED IN SHOOTING AT CLUB Special to The News Sherman, Texas, August 1 - Tom "Sausage" Spencer, 63-year-old Denison man, has been charged with murder with malice in Justice of the Peace Jim Spangler's court in connection with the fatal shooting of Willis Vincent. The 47-year-old Denison man was killed in the Sportsman Club in Denison Saturday night. Spencer, who is being held without bond in the Grayson County jail, signed a statement in the presence of Sheriff Woody Blanton and Denison Chief of Police Paul Borum. The Denison Press Friday, August 3, 1951 DEATHS Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 31 at Bratcher-Moore chapel for Willis E. Vincent, 47-year-old Denisonian who was shot and killed Saturday night in the Sportsman club at 219 W. Main. Rev. B.C. Brown, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiated and interment was in Fairview cemetery. Mr. Vincent was born in Scullin, Oklahoma, June 8, 1904, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vincent. He received his schooling in Dripping Springs, and was married February 13, 1932 in Durant to Miss Callie Wright. The family home is at 1130 W. Main. Survivors are his widow; 2 sons, Ronald Vincent and Franklin Vincent; and a daughter, Peggy Vincent, all of Denison; a brother, Harley Vincent, Arkansas City, Kansas; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Mable Proffitt, Big Spring, and Mrs. Mina Rolen, Denison. The Dallas Morning News Thursday, January 24, 1952 pg. 6 5 YEARS ASSESSED IN DENISON SLAYING Sherman, Texas, Jan. 23 (AP) - Tom Spencer, 64, of Denison, was sentenced to 5 years in the penitentiary here Wednesday for the pistol slaying of his former business partner, Willis Vincent. A 15th District Court jury convicted him of the July 1951 slaying. Vincent, 46, was shot as he entered a recreation hall on Denison's main street. The two men had been partners for several years.
