Condition Critical

Word came from the home of Fate McMahan, near Tom Bean, today that he is in a critical condition.
Mr. McMahan, who is a well known farmer, was shot about two weeks ago by Anver Dean, a young Scotchman, and one of the bullets was never taken from his body.
For several days Mr. McMahan seemed to be improving and hopes were entertained that no serious results would follow.
However, it is stated that his fever stood at 101 degrees today and that he is in a serious condition - Tuesday's Sherman Daily Democrat.

Indictments Returned.

The grand jury which convened in Sherman Monday afternoon got right down to business and yesterday afternoon returned three indictments, all for alleged felonies, into open court.
Two of the indictments were against Anver Dean, the young Scotchman, who on the afternoon of May 11, 1916, shot Mr. and Mrs. J. L. McMahan at their home near Tom Bean. In each indictment he is charged with assault to murder.
Dean is in the county jail, where has been ever since the shooting. From the first he has said that the shooting of Mrs. Dean was an accident, but he has never denied shooting Mr. McMahan, but has expressed deep regret over the affair. At the time of the shooting he turned the pistol on himself, sending a bullet, as he thought, through his body, but the leaden missive struck a rib and went around his body, coming out of his back almost opposite the place where it entered his breast. He has entirely recovered from the effects of the wound. Both Mr. and Mrs. McMahan have recovered, although for several weeks Mr. McMahan hovered between life and death. Spearman Webb, a well known young attorney of this city is representing Dean.
