SHERMAN, Texas -- September 20, 2014 will mark four years since two women and one man were found dead in a burning mobile home just outside of Sherman. There are still no arrests or credible leads.
The father of two victims says he's taking matters into his own hands. It's been a long, painful four years for Larry Ballou.
Me and my two daughters were close, and I miss my kids every day," he said.
The bodies of Misty and Casandra Ballou were found on Sept. 20, 2010 inside a burning mobile home off Reynolds Lane, near Sherman. Larry Ballou said, "Everybody wants closure to it."
Authorities say Misty, Cassandra, and a man named Brian Ritchie were shot. Casandra, who was three months pregnant, was also stabbed.
Ballou said his daughters were staying at Ritchie's house, and he believes whoever killed the women was looking for Ritchie.
Ballou says he can't believe sheriff's investigators haven't made any arrests in the case. "They won't say diddly, but for one I don't really think they're working on it."
Sheriff Keith Gary disagrees, saying they have never stopped investigating the killings. "I hope it's not trite to say I really feel his anguish, I do," Gary said. "I mean, we want to bring this to a closure, and he wants to."
It's one of the worst cases Gary says he's encountered in his 18 years as Sheriff. He says his investigators work on the case at least once a month, and say they're always searching for leads.
"Unfortunately, we just haven't been able to come up with the break that we feel we need to make some arrests," Gary said.
Ballou says now he's turning elsewhere for help. "I've sent a letter off to "America's Most Wanted," he said.
Ballou says he will spend September 20, as he does every year -- honoring his girls.
In the meantime, Gary says his office will continue to do everything they can to find out what happened.
"But I can't manufacture a case. I've got to go with what we've got," he said.
