Jo Ann Francis Wierck, 82, of Sherman, went to be with her Lord and Savior, late Sunday night, May 10, 2015, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison. Rosary was recited at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 13th, at Dannel Funeral Chapel, followed by a time of family visitation. Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14th, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sherman. Father Antonio Aureus officiated.
Jo Ann was born March 24, 1933, in Gilbertville, Iowa, to Louis and Magdeline Federspiel, along with twin sister Jeanette. Throughout their childhood, faith was an important anchor in the home. Although Jo Ann did not follow her sister Irene's path as a nun, she remained deeply devout and passionate in her service. She was a long-time active member of St. Mary's Catholic Parish.
While still in her teens, Jo Ann married Harold Youngblut, and they were blessed with a son, Dennis. Very soon after Dennis was born, Harold was killed in a farming accident. Five years later, Jo Ann married Norbert 'Bud' Wierck. They were blessed with two children. Bud adopted Dennis, and raised him as his own, making theirs a family of five. Bud and Jo Ann enjoyed 25 years together, before Bud's death in 1981.
First a homemaker and mother, Jo Ann was also a talented artist, specializing in sand-blasted window etching scenes. In her later years, Jo Ann was extremely helpful to many families as a caregiver/sitter, for those who needed some assistance in their own homes. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother; a beautiful person inside and out. She will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by her parents; husbands Harold Youngblut and Bud Wierck; brother Loren Federspiel; and sister Irene Federspiel, Jo Ann is survived by her children: Randy Wierck and wife, Charlotte, of Sherman; Dennis Wierck and wife, Sue, of Reidington Beach, Florida; and Linda Schellhorn and husband, Jeff, of Sherman; sisters: Jeanette Klinoff, of Jasper, Texas; and Bernice Babinat, of Fairbanks, Iowa; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
