John Howard Spillman was born January 9, 1934 in Tom, Oklahoma to William Hiram and Nettie Lenora Edwards Spillman, the youngest of 10 children.  He attended school at Haworth, Oklahoma.  On June 23, 1953 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.  He married Helen White October 2, 1955 in Harlingen, Texas.  Howard retired from service in August 1973.  He had 2 daughters, Lenora Lee Spillman and Joyce Lavon Spillman.
When they moved to Denison in 1973 he worked for Oscar Mayer for 20 years and retired in 1996.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher for a men's class, drove the church van to pick up members and the bus for senior adult trips.  Howard volunteered at Helping Hands food bank and worked the election polls.  He delivered Meals on Wheels in Denison and Pottsboro.  In 2006 he volunteered at Wilson N. Jones Hospital as Ambassador and sold popcorn for the Auxiliary.
Howard enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, fishing, camping, woodcraft. 
He is survived by his wife of 64 years; daughter, Lenora Hatch and husband, Frank; three grandchildren, Steven Lee Hatch, Monica Lee Brown and husband, Josh; Jennifer Lee Sewell and husband, Dustin; one great-grandson and three great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 9 siblings; and daughter, Joyce Lavon Spillman.
John passed away October 15, 2018.  A Memorial Service with Full Military Honors was held Friday afternoon, October 19, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastors Danny Wood and Carl Bilderback officiating.  Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home in Denison.
