  James Lee Smith, Sr., 87, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 3, 2023 at his home in Windom, Texas.
James was born April 30, 1936, son of Onsby Smith and Emma Dureen Doggins. He worked for Winn Dixie in the Transportation Department, retiring at 30 years on July 10, 1998. James was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Frederick Smith and unnamed son, baby Smith; daughter, Carolyn Sue Deal; brothers: Joseph Smith, Willie Smith, Fred Smith, Jim Smith; and sisters: Gertrude Nettles, Rosie Johnson and Katherine Witherspoon; grandson, Andre Smith. James enjoyed spending time with his family. To say he enjoyed fishing is a huge understatement. He always had time for a fishing trip! James also had a passion for playing dominoes, exacting his brilliant strategies on all that played with him. He loved a good western movie or show. James leaves behind his beloved family: daughters: Patricia Crossland and Rickey of Windom; Barbara Schroeder and Brian of Bonham; sons, James Smith, Jr. of Savoy; and Donnie Smith of Ft. Worth; 3 honorary children: Sandra Kay Williams, Debra Johnson and Garron; and Nancy Montgomery-Christian; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives.
