Bell, Texas - Jack Mercer passed away on December 20, 2017.
Jack was born to James William Mercer and Phyllis Todd Mercer on July 15, 1950 in Enid, Oklahoma. His father was career Air Force. and they lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Bermuda, and Missouri before moving to Denison in 1963. Jack was a 1968 graduate of Denison High School. He married Woodye Gilliam on February 26, 1977 at Virginia Point Methodist Church. They celebrated 40 years of marriage this year with a trip to San Diego and Maui. He was an Electronic Technician at Texas Instruments for 32 years, working at the Sherman location and Dallas location. Jack was the kind of person that could repair almost anything and loved figuring out how something worked. In his leisure time he enjoyed time at the family cabin on Lake Texoma, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bells and the Texoma Emmaus Community. For many years he was an assistant scout master of Bells Boy Scout Troop 41. Jack is survived by his wife; daughter, Edie Howell and son-in-law, Chris, of Durant, Oklahoma; sons, John Mark Mercer of Kingston, Oklahoma and Jason Mercer and daughter-in-law, Emma, of Durham, North Carolina; mother, Phyllis Mercer, of Denison; mother-in-law, Frances Gilliam, of Bells; brother, Joe Mercer (Katherine); sister, Linda Adams (Wayne); brothers-in-law, Barney Gilliam (Sherry), John Gilliam (Paula); grandchildren, Christian, Chelsea, Collin, Jordan, Courtian, Johnathan, Joshua, Sydney and Addie; special cousin, Becky; nephew, Bradley and niece, Tiffany; special friends, Brenda and Gary. He was preceded in death by his father and father-in-law, Don Gilliam. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 27 at the Mullican-Little Funeral Chapel. Officiating was Rev. Wally Butts.
