Gregory Dean Lay, born April 5, 1968, lost his long time battle with cancer August 2, 2019 at 51 years of age, at the home of his dear friends, Shane and Jennifer Chandler, surrounded by his closest friend, Nayna Salmon.  According to his wishes, he was cremated under the services of Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas.  No funeral services were planned.  A memorial service was planned for a future date.
He is survived by his mother, Arlena Lay of Waco, Texas; sister, April Adams and husband, Scott, of Sherman, Texas; and grandmother, Betsy Frix; many other aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Lay; and grandparents, Bill and Mary Lay; and Forrest Frix.
Greg had many facts to his life including the ability to make friends with everyone he met, with many of these friends remaining extremely close to him throughout his life.  Although too numerous to mention, he loved them all.  He had an enormous wealth of knowledge and thoroughly enjoyed a fine cigar and the camaraderie of the many friendships he made during his career working at a cigar lounge.
Greg was never one to conform to the "norms" of this world and his friends loved him for that.  He was a kind, strong friend willing to do what was needed to help, always there in a time of need.  He was that one true friend and confidant we all aspire to be.
