Sherman - Gene Dalton Hendricks, 81, was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 24, 2021.  A celebration of life was held Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Friendship United Methodist Church, Sherman.  Rev. Roy Spore officiated.  Due to the covid pandemic, the church requests guests wear masks and practice social distancing. Cremation arrangements were under the care of Waldo Funeral Home.
Gene was born April 30, 1930 in Marcelline, Missouri, son of Benjamin B.and Vera B. Hendricks.  The family moved to Hutchinson, Kansas where he attended school.  After graduating from Hutchinson High School, Gene honorably served in the United States Air Force.  He married the love of his life, Carrie L. Taylor on March 17, 1962.  He and his family moved to Texas in 1978, where he started his career with Texas Instruments, eventually retiring from Raytheon in 2005 after 27 years.  A lifetime member of the NRA and Texas State Rifle Association, Gene was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where he served on the church board of directors.  His hobbies included woodworking, reading, especially the Bible, target shooting, and spending time with family and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tanya; and stepmother, Elsie.
Gene is survived by his sister, Marsha Peters of Kansas; son, Eric Hendricks; daughter, Donita Taylor and husband, Bret; grandsons, Cody Lawrence and wife, Aaron; Chase Lawrence and wife, Ainsley; granddaughter, Kasey and husband, Josh; grandson, Sean Hendricks and wife, Laura; 7 great-grandchildren.
