- Memorial services for James Alfred "Al" Godsey were held Monday
afternoon, September 24 at VFW Post 2772 in Sherman. Mr. Godsey,
86, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 in his home. He
requested cremation rights with a marker at Fairview Cemetery.
Al was born June 29, 1932 in Southmayd, Texas to James and Olene Hazelwood Godsey. He served in the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed primarily in Puerto Rico. After his military service, he worked as an aircraft mechanic at Perrin Air Force Base. Mr. Godsey worked at Texas Instruments, then later owned a stock trailer business near Quincy, Illinois. He owned Cherry Mound Ostrick Farm in Denison. In retirement he and his wife loved traveling throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and dancing. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge. His final resting place will be Red River, New Mexico. Mr. Godsey is survived by his wife, Jane R. Godsey, of Denison; 3 daughters, Linda Godsey of Quincy, Illinois; Leigh Reeves and husband, Donny, of Denison; and Nancy Kovar and husband, Dave, of Houston; 9 grandchildren: Brent Korman and wife, Shelby, of Quincy, Illinois; Capt. Keith Stewart and wife, Anna, of New Berlin, Illinois; Corey and Tyler Reeves of Dallas; Brian and Travis Kovar of Houston; Christina Kramer; JoAnna Godsey of Olympia, Washington; and Staff Sergeant Stephanie Godsey of San Angelo, Texas; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Frances Dickson of Whitesboro, Texas; and Sarah Godsey of Denison. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy Godsey; 3 brothers, Johnny, Travis and Ronnie Godsey; and 2 nephews, Kenny Bell and Scottie Melton. There will be full military rights at the memorial service. Memorials may be made to veterans' care organizations or those of the donor's choice.
