Collinsville - Services for Jerry Scott Watson, Sr. of Collinsville,
68, who died Friday at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, will be held at
3 p.m. today in Collinsville Church of Christ.
Charles Yeager will officiate and burial will be in Collinsville
Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Huff Funeral Home in Whitesboro. Mr. Watson was born in Whitesboro, the son of Houston M. Watson and Lora F. Payne Watson. He married Billie LaFern Light on September 11, 1944, in Chesterfield, S.C. and after her death, married Runez Davenport on November 21, 1984, in Collinsville. He had formerly lived in Irving. Mr. Watson was a World War II Army veteran and a retired postal employee. He was a member of the Collinsville Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife; son, Jerry Scott Watson, Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughter, Barbara Ann Lee of Irving; brothers, Joe Watson and Roger Watson, both of Irving; sisters, Naomi Chambers of Irving; Mary McNeil of Whitesboro; and Martha Matthewsof Lubbock; and 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jerry, one of 10 children, is the son of the late Houston and Lora
Watson. He was born and raised in the Whitesboro area where he attended
school in Whitesboro and Collinsville. Following school, Jerry spent
a year in California before going into the army. He served 3 years
in the service, two of those years he was a paratrouper. After the
service he lived in North Carolina for a few months. During that
time, in 1944, he married Fern Light. Then they lived in California,
Denison, Dallas, and Irving, while Jerry served 32 years as Dispatcher
and Distribution Clerk with the U.S. Postal Service. He and Fern
had two children, Jerry S. Watson, Jr., now of Fayetteville, North Carolina,
and Barbara Lee of Irving, Texas.
