3rd Addition, Section 1 Billy Ray Dillon 1935 - 1943 Jack Ralph Dillon 1927 - 1943 Sherman Democrat 21 June 1943 pg. 1 FIVE DIE, FOUR HURT IN WHITESBORO CRASH Whitesboro - Five persons were killed and four seriously injured in a grade crossing accident on Highway 10 in south Whitesboro Monday at 8 a.m., the car in which they were riding reported to have been split in two by a Katy passenger train. The dead are Ralph Dillon, 18, Billy Ray Dillon, 9, and Gerald David Blanton, 8, Beverly Ann Blanton, 4, and Mac Young, 15. Seriously injured and in a Sherman hospital is Mrs. Edith Dillon, 48, mother of the Dillon children and grandmother of the Blanton children. Other injured are Mrs. David Blanton, 28, daughter of Mrs. Dillon and mother of the Blanton children; W.D. Dillon, 22, son of Mrs. Edith Dillon and his baby daughter, Brenda Joyce, 15 months old. These injured were treated at the Whitesboro clinic. Mac Young is a son of Jess Young of Sherman and Mrs. Mamie Young of Whitesboro. The father of the Dillon children, John Dillon, died about nine years ago. The dead were identified by Mrs. O.N. White, sister-in-law of Mrs. Dillon. According to meager details available, the Dillon automobile was enroute to Whitesboro when the crash occurred at the Katy railroad crossing. Some of the victims had employment in Whitesboro and others planned to do some farm work north of here. Mrs. David Blanton and her two children, former residents of Whitesboro and Collinsville, arrived Sunday from Bakersfield, Calif., and were visiting her mother, Mrs. Edith Dillon of near Whitesboro and her mother-in-law, Mrs. George Bowlin of Collinsville. (Researcher's note: Mrs. George Bowlin was the former Zade Creech widow of David Elijah Blanton.) Sherman Democrat June 22, 1943 p. 7 FUNERAL SERVICES FOR CRASH VICTIMS Whitesboro - Funeral services will be held at Collinsville Wednesday for the Blanton and Dillon children, victims of a grade- crossing accident near here Monday morning. For the Dillon children services will be held at the Baptist church and for the Blanton children, at the Church of Christ. Further arrangements were pending the arrival of David Blanton, father of the Blanton children and brother-in-law of the Dillon children, who was to have arrived in Whitesboro Tuesday afternoon. Ralph Dillon, 16, was born Oct. 10, 1926, at Collinsville, a son of Mrs. Edith Dillon and the late John Dillon. He had lived most of his life in Whitesboro. Billy Ray Dillon was born Oct. 26, 1934 at Collinsville. Both were pupils of the Whitesboro school. Survivors of the Dillon children are the mother and the following brothers and sisters: George Dillon, Dan Garland Dillon and W.D. Dillon of Whitesboro, Private John W. Dillon of MacArthur's arm in Australia, Mrs. Bill Fike of Denison, Mrs. David Blanton of Bakersville, Calif., and Pauline Dillon of Whitesboro. Also surviving are the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Dillon of Whitesboro. Born in Collinsville, Gerald David Blanton would have been eight years old Tuesday. Beverly Ann Blanton was born July 21, 1937 in Bakersville. Survivors of the Blanton children are the parents and two grandmothers, Mrs. George Bowling of Collinsville and Mrs. Edith Dillon, a patient at St. Vincent's hospital in Sherman following the accident, also the great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H.
