Whitesboro Teenager Killed In Collision Southmayd - Royce Dan Hazelwood, 17, of Whitesboro,was killed and his 15 year-old brother, Jack Charles was described Saturday night as "fair" at Wilson N. Jones hospital in Sherman. The truck loaded with jet fuel did not Ignite, B. F. Wade, Investigating Texas Highway Patrolman, said. Wade was assisted in the investigation by Highway Patrolman Harlan Sewell. The mishap happened at 4:45 p.m., 8.4 miles west of Sherman just inside the Southmayd city limits on Highway 82. Royce Hazelwood was driving the family car, a 1950 Ford, traveling toward his home in Whitesboro. Driver of the eastbound fuel truck was W. Clarence Hulme, 66, of Dallas. He was not injured. Wade said the entire left side of the Ford was torn off when the Ford was torn off when the Ford and the left rear tandems of the Trailer were in collision. Hazelwood was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vance Hazelwood of Whitesboro. A Waldo Funeral Home ambulance brought the brothers to the Sherman hospital where Royce was pronounced dead on arrival. The highly inflammable fuel gas did not leak or spill, Wade said. Hulme told Wade he was afraid to apply his brakes following the collision because the jet fuel might ignite. Wheels of the truck had been knocked out of line and were smoking, Wade said. The load of jet fuel was consigned to Perrin AFB. No Charges are to be filed in connection with the accident, Wade said. Funeral service for Hazelwood will be Monday at 3 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Whitesboro, officiated by Rev. Houston Hodges, church pastor. Rev, Alva Bates will assist. Burial will be In Collinsville Cemetery, directed by Richards-Beck Funeral Home. Born May 10, 1940 in Sadler, Hazelwood was a senior in Whitesboro High School and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors are his parents; two brothers Jack Charles and Jimmy Ray; three sisters, twin sister of the deceased Loyce Ann, Judy Kay and Janice Sue Hazelwood, all of Whitesboro: paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. J. C. Hazelwood of Sadler and maternal grandfather, W.W. McKnight of Collinsville.
