There was a mighty roar when the governor rose to speak. He strode to
the front of the crude but sturdy platform. And they shouted and stomped
their feet, although nobody, recalls exactly what he said. They were al
waiting, you see, for the big moment of the unveiling and the festivities
that were to follow.
The governor concluded his speeh, was waited for the applause to
subside, followed the other visiting notables to the bus- and left Collinsville.
(The statement .....refuted by other who were there) as well as the...been..
Just Like that !
He didn't wait or visit the square to supervise the removals of
the yards and yards of sheeting from the monument
There are some who say he didn't even glance once at the mighty
structure built in his honor.
