Gwin was very near death last night, but was better this morning and may live for a long time. He is paralyzed from the hips down. Gwin evidently sat down on the track near the stock pens on the Ray cut off and fell asleep. A switch engine passed that way pushing a string of empty cars. A pair of trucks passed over Gwin's body, and by a miracle did not crush the life out of him. The injured man was brought to the M. K. & T. branch hospital, where he was given attention. The surgeons there found that his backbone was broken. The cuts and contusions on his body were numerous but not serious. After his injuried were dressed, Gwin was removed to his home. While there is no assurance that Gwin will recover, he may live for many years if he recovers from the immediate effects of the accident. There is one case of a man who was injured near Denison who lived for fifteen years with a fractured spine.
