JAMES H. BURCH DEAD Denison, Texas, April 4 - James H. Burch died this morning after a long illness from a complication of troubles. He had been much better, however, for the past 2 weeks and was regarded out of danger and his death this morning was very sudden, his wife finding him dead in bed upon returning to the room, from which she had been absent only a few moments. Deceased was one of the pioneers of the state, having moved to Texas from Missouri in the early '70s and located at this place. He served all through the late war in the Confederate Army and was a member of the Ex-Confederate Camp here. The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, April 9, 1899 JAMES H. BURCH DEAD Death has laid his hands on another pioneer and called him to his last reward. After a long and painful illness, James H. Burch died at the family residence Tuesday morning. Mr. Burch cast his lot with Denison in the seventies and has been a familiar figure here ever since. He was by trade a carpenter and was for a number of years in charge of the county precinct gagn repairing bridges, culverts, etc. The writer has known the deceased for a number of years and can truthfully say that there never was a more kind and generous man than he. His loyalty to his friends was an evergrowing instinct. Mr. Burch came here from Missouri. He was a gallang soldier in the Confederate and was a member of Denison Camp, U.C.V. Death must have come as a sweet relief to Mr. Burch. He had been an invalid for the past 2 years and more. At times he would rally and inspire his numerous friends with the belief that his life might be prolonged. During the warm, beautiful days of a fortnight ago, Mr. Burch was on the streets and appeared to be on the road to health. To his memory we can say, he was a good citizen, a loyal friend, a loving and kind husband and father. The deceased leaves a wife and 4 children, all grown. Two sons are prosperous business men at Shawnee, O.T. and were present at the burial. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon from the family residence, 1102 W. Owings street. The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, December 15, 1895 pg. 1 Miss Flowie Burch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Burch, died Saturday evening, December 7, after a lingering illness of a year or more. The remains were interred Sunday at the Kaufman burial ground a few miles west of the city, the funeral taking place from the family residence, 403 South Tone avenue. The young lady grew up in Denison from early childhood, and she was loved, honored and respected by all who knew her.
