SAN JACINTO HERO BURIED IN COUNTY [Files of Sherman Daily Democrate, June 14 1935; compiled and edited by Ann Lowry] To
G. W. Wheeler of Collinsville, native of Grayson County, goes the honor
of bringing to light in this pre-centennial year, a little-known
historical fact: That Grayson County has six buried within its borders
a hero of the San jacinto Battlefield.
Mr. Wheeler has pointed out an unmarked grave in the little cemetery of Christian Chapel, near Sadler, which contains all that remains of the Kentuckian who came to Texas to aid in her war for independence. The interest of Judge G. P. Webb, president of the Grayson County Historical Association, was aroused by Mr. Wheeler. Judge Webb busied himself in the task of securing positive evidence of legal dependability, of the fact that the Kentuckian, Louis Wilmouth by name, had fought in the battle of San Jacinto. As result, the county is to do honor to the verteran's memory by means of a proper marking of the brave and the building of an all-weather road to .......incomplete article.
