MRS. B.F. WOODS DIES TODAY
Mrs. Perlina E. Woods, 58, wife of Ben F. Woods, died this morning at 3:20 at her home, 821 W. Nelson.
Mrs.
Woods was born at Gordonville, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Shires and
was reared and educated at that point. She married Mr. Woods at
Locust and moved with him shortly afterwards to Denison.
Surviving
are her husband; 2 son, Murrell Terry of San Diego and Luther Woods of
Denison; 4 daughters, Mrs. Cleo Dickerson of Paris; Mrs. Mettie Hackle
of Roxton; Mrs. Lena Vaughan of Soper, Oklahoma; and Miss Grace Woods
of Abilene; 2 brothers, J.A. Shires of Chillicothe and Lem Hogan of
Loveland; a sister, Mrs. S.B. Woods of Denison.
Funeral services
were held Thursday afternoon from the Assembly of God church, followed
by interment at Cherry Mound with Short-Murray directing.

Funeral
services for Mrs. Mary Mariah Woods, 86, wife of Richard Woods, who
died Sunday evening at her home on Denison, route 1, were held Tuesday
afternoon at the Cherry Mound church. Interment was at Cherry
Mound Cemetery, Dannel-Scott Funeral Home of Sherman directing.
Mrs.
Woods had been in ill health since September 9. She was born in
Hancock County, Tennessee and came to Texas in 1887, settling in
Sherman. She later moved to Cherry Mound and then to her home
east of Denison.
She was a member of the Cherry Mound Church.
Surviving
are her husband; one son by a former marriage, J.N. Winkler, of
Buffalo, New York; 5 grandchldren, Mrs. Willie Mae Anderson, C.N. Woods
and Mrs. Jessie McAllister, of Denison; Mrs. Elsie Young of
Gainesville; and Mrs. Mary Bond of Sherman; 11 great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.

Funeral
services for Richard Wood, 91, route 1, one of Denison's only 2
surviving Grand Army of the Republic veterans and resident of Denison
63 years, who died Saturday night at his rural home, were held this
afternoon from the Cherry Mound church with interment in Cherry Mound
cemetery. Dannel-Scott, funeral director, of Sherman, was in
charge.
Mr. Wood was born September 4, 1884 in Claiborne county,
Tennessee and attended the common school there. He was married in
Tennessee in 1879 and came to Texas in 1887, settling in Sherman.
Later the couple moved to Cherry Mound, south of Denison, then t
Mr.
Wood enlisted in the Union army from Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, January
4, 1854, Co. 8, 11th Infantry Regiment. His company was torn up
so badly he was transferred to the 9th Cavalry under General Burnside.
He had served 8 months and 7 days when the war ended.
The couple had 2 sons, both of whom have died. Mrs. Wood died a year ago.

are 5 grandchldren, Mrs. Richaes McAlister and Charles Wood of Denison;
Mrs. Mary Bond of Sherman; Mrs. Elsie Young of Gainesville; Mrs. Lester
Alexander of Dallas; and a step-son, J.N. Winkler of Buffalo, New York.
