Sherman - Graveside services for W. E. "Bob" Burns will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, March 22 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be conducted by the Shepherd Air force Honor Guard with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Mr. Burns, 87, passed away Tuesday March 19 at the Homestead of Sherman.

Mr. Burns was born May 8, 1925 in Abilene, Texas to the late Ira and Willie Mae Burns. He married Jo Evelyn Brewer on April 18, 1968 at the Perrin AFB Chapel. She preceded him in death in January 2005.

Mr. Burns attended high school in Corpus Christi and Sweetwater, Texas. He received his BS degree from Austin College in 1949. After serving in the US Air Force, he retired while stationed at Perrin AFB. Mr. Burns later retired from Civil Service in 1991, where he had served as Resource Manager for the Air Force Commissary Service regions located at Barksdale A.F. Base, Louisiana, Lakenheath RAFB, England and Langley AFB, Virginia. He was a member of the NARFE Chapter 1290, VFW Post 2772, and Key Memorial United Methodist Church.

He is survived by daughter, Donna Graham and husband Paul of Denison; daughter, Margaret (Peggie) Anne Burns of Bentonville, Arkansas; son, Robert (Bob) Leroy Burns and wife Linda of Los Angeles, California; grandsons, Dustin Sky Esau Burns and Demian Sol Ezra Burns, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by step-sons Ronnie Witt and wife Susie of Montgomery, Texas, Michael Witt and wife Cathy of Dallas, Texas, and Scott Witt and wife Karla of Sherman. Mr. Burns has four step granddaughters who survive him, Allison Witt of Houston, Katherine Stenesen and husband Drew and daughter Eleanor, Rebecca Sodek and husband Brian and daughter Hannah of Dallas, and Kortney Zirges of Sherman. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Shirley Patty Allen of Plainview, Texas; two nephews, Mike Grider and wife Raylene of Wichita, Kansas and Gerald Nelson and wife Kacee of Houston; and his close friend, Maurine Campbell of Sherman.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday at Waldo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County
