- Hugh Wesley, Jr. was born December 30, 1917 in Vernon, Oklahoma, son
of Hugh Cyrus Wesley, Sr. and Minnie Bell Reed Wesley and passed
from this life on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at his home. Mr. Wesley grew up in Oklahoma and seved in the United States Navy from 1947 to 1952. He was a registered nurse and graduate of Bellevue Hospital and New York University in 1953. He married Bernice V. Jones in 1961 in Oklahoma. She precedes him in death in 2009. He worked at the VA Hospital in Dallas for 30 years, retiring in 1981. Upon his retirement, he was issued a Service Award for faithful service to the U.S. Government. Mr. Wesley was a caring and loving man who enjoyed his family. Many people who knew him can attest to the vast knowledge he had even at his age. He was a member of the Samaria Baptist Church in Van Alstyne. Mr. Wesley was also preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Sharon Wesley. He is survived by his son, Hugh C. Wesley, III of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Frances Fonsville-Howard and husband, Donald, of Anna, Texas; daughter-in-law, Maxine Maxfield of Petersburg, Virginia; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A Service of Celebration was held Wednesday morning, July 11, 2019 at Samaria Baptist Church in Van Alstyne, with Revs. James Petty, Charles Niblet, and Willie Ballard officiating. Mr. Wesley was emtombed in Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas. Services were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas.
