Established 1948 Bertha Wright 1899 - 1983 DeWitt Wright 1893 - 1967 Sherman Democrat April 6, 1967 Dewitt Wright, 74, Dies Following Long Illness DENISON - Funeral services for DeWitt Wright, 74, were scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Johnson-Moore Funeral Chapel. He died Wednesday evening at his home on Route 3, Sherman. He had been ill for one year. Rev. Jack Gray, pastor of the Cockrell Hill Methodist Church in Dallas, officiateed. Burial was in Cedarlawn Cemetery. Mr. Wright was born January 7, 1893 in Grayson County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Wright. He was married September 25, 1921 to Miss Bertha Blackwell in Minden, Louisiana. He was a farmer-stockman and a member of the Christian Church. He attended the Plainview School. Survivors of Mr. Wright include his wife and six sons: DeWitt Wright Jr. of Whitesboro; Robert Wright of Beaumont; E.J. Wright of Longview; Earl Ray Wright of Tulsa; Jimmy Wright of Colbert, Oklahoma; and Franklin Wright of Route 3, Sherman. One daughter, Mrs. Bill Anderson of Denison; three brothers, Frank, Liter and Lee Wright; three sisters, Mrs. J.S.Terry, Mrs. Fred Klas and Mrs. Hattie Wade, all of Route 3, Sherman; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Sherman Democrat February 27, 1983 D9 SHERMAN - Funeral for Mrs. Bertha Wright, 84, who died yesterday at her Sherman residence was held at 2 p.m., at Johnson-Moore Chapel. Sid Maples and L. D. Lamb conducted the service. Burial was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Wright was born February 6, 1899 in Minden, Louisiana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blackwell. She received her schooling in Louisiana and married DeWitt Wright in 1921 in Minden. He died in 1967. She was a housewife and a Methodist. Survivors include four sons, Earnest John of Longview, Carl Ray of Tulsa, Jimmy L. of Colbert, and Franklin D. of Sherman; two step-sons, DeWitt Wright Jr., of Whitesboro and Robert Wright of Beaumont; a daughter, Juanita Atkinson of Denison; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Burial was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Harold Watson will officiated. She was born September 22, 1913 in Kendrick, Oklahoma, daughter of Tom and Dora Metts Deck. She married DeWitt Wright Jr., September 21, 1935 in Grayson County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro and a member of the Eastern Star. Survivors are her husband; a son, Larry De of Whitesboro; a daughter, Linda Welch of Whitesboro; four brothers, Tom Deck of Jal, New Mexico, Neal Wright of Gardendale, Lloyd Wright of Odessa, and Harold Wright of Silver City, New Mexico; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
