ROY TAYLOR, JR BURIED MONDAY
Funeral services for John Roy Taylor, Jr., 24, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Lee H. Smith, assisted by Rev. Ronald Prince, pastor of the West Side Baptist Church of Denison.  Interment was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery between Sherman and Denison.  At the church service, LeRoy Martin of Sherman, long-time friend of the Taylor family, sang two hymns.  A service was also held at Carthage Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Taylor died Friday night en route to a hospital, victim of a gunshot wound inflicted when he sought to stop a fight between three men at Longview.
Born in Marianna, Arkansas, January 20, 1927, Junior Taylor, as he was known to his many friends, was the second of seven children of Mr. and Mrs. John Roy Taylor, Sr.  He moved to Whitewright with his parents when a small boy and grew up here, where he attended school.  He served for serveral months in the Army during World War II and was discharged because of a heart ailment.
On October 24, 1948 Mr. Taylor was married to Miss Norma Wilhelm of Denison.  Shortly thereafter they moved to Carthage where Mr. Taylor established a successful feed, grain and trucking business.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Holly Ann; his parents; two sisters, Mrs. A.D. Minnick of Ft. Worth; and Auda Taylor of Whitewright; four brothers, Walter Perry Taylor and Payton Cordell Taylor, both of Carthage; and Edward Allen Taylor and Aaron Lee Taylor of Whitewright; and a host of other relatives.
