Established 1948 Luther Ray Thompson passed away on October 22, 2021 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas at the age of 86. Luther was born on May 2, 1935, son of Opal Landmon Thompson and Raymond Thompson. He worked for the MKT Railroad until he retired in the 1980s. Luther was also a lifelong steel guitar player and performed with well-known country recording artists. He was honored with several awards throughout his music career, including Steel Guitar Player of the Year, 2014, and an induction into the Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest Hall of Fame, 2015. He most recently player with the Country Wranglers out of Madill, Oklahoma until his death. He married Ruby Harris in 1956 and they were together for 42 years until she passed away in 2003. He got reacquainted with Barbara Murphy after many years and they stayed by each other's side until Barbara's passing 3 days prior to his. Luther is survived by his daughter, Kathy Jones; his granddaughter, Kelsey Jones and Dustin Strickland; sister, Mary Fay Spradlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Thompson; grandson Casey Jones; companion, Barbara Murphy; parents; brother, Jimmy Thompson; and great-nephew, Parker Thompson.
