Lane Travis, 67, passed peacefully with dignity and grace into the
Kingdom of Heaven on February 2, 2018 in Sherman, Texas. He was
born August 20, 1950. He was a loving husband, father, brother
and friend to all he encountered and was loved by many. Norman
was a CFO for Plyler Construction for nearly 30 years. He served
as a Deacon for 10 years at First Baptist Church of Whitewright, Texas. Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and relaxing at the lake. There are few people you meet in life that add value to yours and Norman was one of those people. He knew what a Christian and deacon was all about - to lift up, build up, support and serve. He loved Jesus, his family, friends and his church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman A. Travis and Edna R. Gilliam-Travis; granddaughter, Ashley A. McCombs. He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Kathryn L. Phillips and husband, Roger; Sheila M. Foster and husband, Eric; grandchildren, Steven W. Calzadias and wife Christine; Amanda N. Lamb; Austin I. McCombs and wife, Holly; Hailey R. Foster; Mackenzie E. Foster; and great-grandson, Lucas S. Lamb; brothers, William Travis and Donald Travis. Services were held at Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman Thursday noon, February 8, 2018. Graveside service followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, Sherman, Texas. Mary Sue Travis went home to be with the Lord, August 14, 2021 in Van Alstyne, Texas, surrounded by her family who dearly loved her. She was born May 5, 1951 in Gainesville, Texas, daughter of James Matthews and Louise Parker. She married Norman Travis on June 5, 1970 in Dallas, Texas. Mary was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas. Mary retired as the secretary of First Baptist Church of Whitewright, Texas. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her granchildren. Mary took great pride in her rose bushes. She enjoyed going to the lake with her family, boating and cook outs. She loved to travel with her husband; they vacationed all over the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. They also enjoyed traveling on cruises. Mary and Norman were very faithful to their church, teaching Sunday School and serving on various committees. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Kathryn Phillips and husband, Roger, of Bowie, Texas; and Sheila Foster and husband, Eric, of Van Alstyne, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Steven Calzadias and wife, Christine; Amanda Talley and husband, Chad; Austin McCombs and wife, Holly; Hailey Foster and Mackenzie Foster; 3 great-grandchildren, Lucas Lamb; Jet Talley and Cooper Talley; and sister, Wanda Washburne and husband, Jack, of Clearwater, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Jimmy Matthews; and granddaughter, Ashley McCombs.
