Tucson Citizen March 5, 1959 pg. 1 COUPLE DIES AS AUTO RAMS TRUCK A Marine Master Sergeant and his wife were killed this morning when their car crashed into the rear of a highway department truck 2 miles west of Willcox on U.S. 66. The vicitms were Herman G. Traweek, 36, and his wife, Mabel, 32, who reportedly en route from the Marine base at Santa Ana, California to Texas. Their 7-year-old [sic] daughter, the only other passenger escaped with minor cuts and bruises. The Arizona Highway Patrol reported Traweek apparently went to sleep at the wheel. Members of the work crew were putting out signs behind the truck w hen they saw the sedan approach with Traweek slumped over the wheel. TRAWEEK Denison, March 7 (Spl) - Bratcher Funeral Home here will announce arrangements for a Denison couple, Master Sgt. and Mrs. Herman G. Traweek, who were killed Thursday in an automobile accident at Wilcox, Arizona. A daughter, Cindy Sue, 4, was uninjured in the accident. Traweek, 36, was bringing his family to Denison from El Toro, California where he had been stationed as a Marine. He planned to leave his family here while serving overseaa. Traweek is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Traweek of Denison. The Denison Press Friday, March 13, 1959 DOUBLE FUNERAL SERVICES HERE FOR ACCIDENT VICTIMS Rev. Ernest L. Potter, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiated at the double funeral service Tuesday afternoon at Bratcher Chapel for Marine Master Sergeant and Mrs. Harold G. Traweek, Jr. Burial was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. The Traweeks and their little 4-year-old, Cindy Sue, were en route to Denison from El Toro Marine Base in California when their car crashed into the rear of a truck in Wilcox, Arizona. The young parents were killed. The little girl escaped uninjured. The body of Mrs. Traweek was returned to Denison in a Bratcher ambulance accompanied by H.G. "Bud" Traweek, Sr., father of the Sergeant. Sergeant Traweek's body was brought to Denison by the Marine Corps. The Traweeks were coming to Denison to visit in the home of his parents at 217 E. Munson where the mother and child would remain while the Sergeant reported for overseas duty. Sgt. Traweek was born in Denison April 16, 1922. He was educated in Denison schools and was married June 10, 1940 to Mabel Dubuque of Washington, D.C. He is survived by his parents; his daughter; and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Mauritzen of Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Traweek's survivors are her mother, Mrs. Dubuque, Washington, D.C.; and a brother, Joe Dubuque of Washington.
