Established 1948 The Herald Democrat November 4, 2011 Funeral services for Barbara June Simmons, age 74, of Sherman, were held Saturday morning, November 5, 2011 at Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Joe Ed Furr officiating. Interment followed in Cedarlawn Memorial Park cemetery. Mrs. Simmons was born June 9, 1937, in Savoy, Texas, daughter of William Turner and Evelyn Whitehead. She attended Savoy and Bonham High Schools, as well as Cooke County Junior College. On February 13, 1954, she married Clarence E. Simmons in Savoy. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. After working in the healthcare field, she changed careers, acquiring her Insurance License. She worked as an agent for the Germania Insurance Companies for over 25 years serving friends and family in the North Texas area. Survivors include her children: June Pokorny and husband, Rick, of Whitesboro, Texas; Kathy Douglas and husband, Steve, of Clinton, Arkansas; CE "Gene" Simmons and wife, Kristi, of Vilonia, Arkansas; and Jeff Simmons and wife, Janie, of Denison, Texas; 10 grandchildren: Angela, Pamela, Erica, Chris, Matt, Kim, Caitlyn, Cole, Jessica and Justin; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is survived by 2 sisters, Louise Dove and husband, Bobby, of Melbourne, Florida; and Elaine House and husband, David, of Garland, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; husband, Clarence; and grandson, Brent Douglas. Pallbearers were Chris Douglas, Justin Simmons, Sean House, Lance Morris, Zach Sweetin, and Cody Morrow.
