Denison - Charles A. Sherrard, 79, longtime Denison auto dealer and cattle rancher who operated the Sherrard RV-KOA at Colbert, died February 7, 1992 in Texoma Medical Center.  Graveside service was held Monday morning in Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Dr. Boyd Sawyer and Rev. Mike Pulliam officiating.  Bratcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Sherrard was born July 5, 1912 in Wortham, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Sherrard.  He moved to Oklahoma as a child and received his education at Ardmore High School, Murray State College at Tishomingo and Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.  He married Mary L. Townsend in Hugo, Oklahoma in 1938.
Before coming to Denison in 1938, he was in the oil refinery and drilling business, having built refineries at Gladewater and Centralia, Illinois.  He was the original Bear Drug owner at 230 West Main, and also once owned Harris Drug here and Druant Drug in Durant, Oklahoma.



He opened Sherrard Motor Co. in early 1945 at the corner of Chestnut Street and Rusk Avenue, a location that for many years was the site of the Davis Livery Stable which was destroyed by a spectacular fire in the early 1900s.
He operated in the building until 1965 when he built a new auto and truck agency on Highway 75 just south of Iron Ore Creek.  He sold new and used cars and trucks and recreational vehicles at that location until 1985 when he sold the auto agency and moved his RV business to Colbert, Oklahoma.  He had also been engaged in a full-time registered Hereford cattle operation on his ranch north of Denison for the past 40 years.
In 1974 Sherrard was named outstanding Town and County conservationist of the Upper Elm-Red Soil & Water Conservation District.  He was honored last year as a 50-year member of the Denison Elks Lodge.  He was a member of Waples Methodist Church, Elks Lodge No. 238 and Odd Fellows.
Survivors includ his wife; 3 sons, Charles Warren Sherrard of Winter Haven, Florida; Charles Shepherd Sherrard of Arlington, Texas; and Charles Lawrence Sherrard of Denison; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Joe Gay, Jack Elrod, Dr. W.H. Brown, John Allison, Sonny Richardson, Dr. W.N. Porter, Gene Eubanks, and Scott Sherrard.

Denison - Mary Louise Sherrard, longtime resident of Denison, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at her home.  She was born Mary Louise Townsend on January 27, 1922 in Paris, Texas, youngest of 3 daughters of Claude and Mary Rigero Townsend, where her parents operated a confedtionary store.  Her sister, Claudia, operated a millinery shop in Paris, Texas.
Mary married Charles Amizare Sherrard at the age of 16 in Hugo, Oklahoma on October 3, 1938.  Over the years they operated a Buick dealership in Denison, an RV dealership in Colbert, Oklahoma with long-time manager, Sonny Richardson; and a cattle ranch in Denison.  Mary loved to take care of her family and enjoyed living on the ranch.  Her talents extended from creative cooking in the kitchen to artistic painting with oils.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sons, Charles Sheppard and Charles Lawrence; and sisters, Claudia Edwards and Dorothy Sheperd.
Mary is survived by her step-son, Chares Warren Sherrard of Winter Haven, Florida; daughter-in-law, Jerri Jane Sherrard of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Charles Mark Sherrard and wife, Donna, of Bartow, Florida; Pamela Waters and husband, Phil, of Bartow, Florida; Heather Lee and husband, Cody, of McKinney, Texas; Charles Scott Sherrard and wife, Laura, of Arlington, Texas; Shana Sherrard Stonebarger and husband, Shane, of Pottsboro, Texas; and Christopher Austin Shane Sherrard and wife,  Priscilla, of Cathedral City, California.  Great-grandchildren surviving her are Benjamin, Melinda and Megan Sherrard; Hudson, Sheppard, Jacey Isabella and Lola Grace Lee; Melissa and Brian Sherrard; Charles Cole Meeker; and great-great-grandchildren, Blake Sherrard and Wyatt Stonebarger.
Mary enjoyed the company of her lifelong friend, Margaret V. McLerran, of Conroe, Texas.  Martha Scotch and husband, Angelo; Peggy Gay; Martha Donaldson; Treva and husband, Charlie Thomas; and Clara Tarver, all of Denison.
Pallbearers were Charles Warren; Mark, Brian, Scott and Shane Sherrard, in addition to Cody Lee, David McNees, Sonny Richardson, and Robert Byers.  Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, September 13, 2012 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Spore, pastor of Waples United Methodist Church, officiating.
A private burial service was held at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas where Mary was interred next to her late husband, Charles.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Waples United Methodist Church in Denison, Texas; a 4-H Club of your choice; to Home Hospice of Grayson County; or to your favorite charity.
