Denison, Texas -- Floyd O. "Smut" Smith was born in Ector, Texas on July 14, 1918 and went to be with his Lord and Savior June 26, 2015.
Smut served during WWII in the Army Aircorp, followed by a career in the civil service at Perrin Field and Tinker AFB, until retiring in 1973. He remained active after retirement.
He was a Mason and a member of Park Avenue Church of Christ. He married the love of his life, Mary Lou Carruth, in 1950. Smut had 3 brothers and 2 sisters, all deceased.
He is survived by Mary, his devoted wife of 64 years, as well as several nieces and nephews and their families, including Sherry, LeaAnn, Tara, Leslee and many other loving family members and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, June 30, 2015 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel with Basil McClure officiating. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.  Pallbearers were Billy Martindale, Gerald Locke, Jim Russell, Andy Russell, Howard Rainwater and Phil Landrum.
In lieu of flowers, if family and friends would like, the family suggests a donation to Grayson Home Hospice in Smuts memory.


Mary Lou Carruth Smith, 88, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017 in Burleson, Texas at the home of her niece, Sherry Mathews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, December 19, 2017 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel in Denison, Texas with burial following in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas with Basil McClure officiating.
Mary was born June 13, 1929, daughter of Robert Clark Carruth and Vera Price Carruth.  She played basketball and graduated from Savoy High School.  She worked for the phone company, as did her sister, Floydean, and her future sister-in-law, Ann.
Mary married Floyd O. "Smut" Smith in November 1950.  They enjoyed almost 65 years of marriage until his death.
Aunt Mary and Uncle Smut didn't have children of their own; they enjoyed being involved in the lives of their nieces and nephews and their families.  Three generations of our family were able to enjoy them.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert A. Carruth and wife, Ann; sister, Floydean Sutherland; and Mary's beloved husband.
She is survived by her nieces, nephews, and their extended families: Mel, Bill and Max Carruth; Lea Ann Hodge and Sherry Mathews; and sister-in-law, Jackie Smith; brother-in-law, Bob Sutherland; as well as many wonderful and kind neighbors and church friends from Park Avenue Church of Christ.
