Henry Field Slagle
25 July 1940 - 17 March 2014

Sherman - Henry Field Slagle passed from this world on March 27, 2014.  Henry, often known as Hank, was born July 25, 1940 in Sherman, Texas, son of former District Judge R.C. Slagle, Jr. and Nancy Field Slagle, who have predeceased him. He is survived by 2 children, Wendi Slagle Morton and Samuel J. Slagle of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Henry lived in Albuquerque for more that 30 years, owning and operating Slagle and Associates Real Estate Appraisals, Inc. before retiring to live in Sherman with his brother, R.C. Slagle, III and sister-in-law, Susan Slagle.
Henry graduated from Sherman High School, Class of 1958, served as a medic in the U.S. Army before continuing his college education at Southeastern and East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas.
Henry, to resolve an alcohol problem, successfully attended Alcoholics Anonymous for 28 years. He served as President of the Heights A.A. Club in Albuquerque until shortly before moving back to Sherman last year.  He presided over a complete remodeling of the Heights A.A. Club to which he contributed heavily from his personal funds.  He was active in the Democrat Parties of Texas and New Mexico and designed  a political "block captain" program in Houston, Texas in 1962 which became a model for Texas for many years.
Besides Wendi and Sam, Henry is survived by his brother, R.C. Slagle, III and sister-in-law, Susan Slagle of Sherman, Texas; his cousins, Marsha Field Foster, Stanton Field, Willis Meador Payne; niece, Elizabeth Slagle; nephews, R.C. Slagle, IV; R.J. Slagle and Andrew D. Slagle; great-nephews: Jaden Slagle, Zachary Slagle, Andy Slagle, Seth Slagle; great-nieces: Sara Slagle, Aimee Slagle and Lauren Slagle; step-brothers, John Roman and Buzz Roman; step-sister, Marcia Holt and special friend, Nicole  Garza.
Henry had an outgoing personality, never met a stranger, and was well-liked by all who met him.  He was generous to a fault with his money to those in need of help or those who just needed a friendly word.
His passing leaves a great void for all of us who loved him and shared his laughter and joyous personality.
Pallbearers were Don Jarvis, Robert Earl Richardson, Jr.; Jerry Russell, Robert Minshew; Frank McGraw; and J. Saunders Freels, Jr.  Honorary pallbearers were Gene Foster, Bill Payne; Stanton Field and Rich Wagner.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to: Four Rivers, Sherman, Texas; Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sherman, Texas; Heights AA Club, Albuquerque, New Mexico; or ARF Animal Rescue, Sherman, Texas.
