Established 1948   Michael Wayne Sweeney lost his battle with melanoma cancer on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on Friday, February 3, 1961, son of Leonard and Willene Sweeney. He grew up mainly in Newark, Delaware, graduating from Newark High School and the University of Delaware with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked at Texas Instruments/Raytheon for 32 years, building military hardware for mainly avionic systems. Michael enjoyed outdoor activities including golf, bicycling, snow skiing, wilderness backpacking and softball. After retirement he traveled both domestically and internationally to Greece, Iceland, Peru, Great Britain, and multiple cruises. He also enjoyed maintaining and building on the family property he inherited. Michael is survived by his mother, Willene Sweeney; and aunt, Janell Morgan Howell as well as many cousins. Graveside service for Mr. Sweeney were held Thursday afternoon, May 18, 2023 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Habitat for Humanity or the Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
