Established 1948 Vivienne I. Stringer 1914 - 2007 M.E. "Gene" Stringer 1915 - 1998 Denison, Texas - Vivienne "Vi" Stringer, 93, died Wednesday, August 18, 2007 at Wesley Village in Denison. Vivienne was born on July 26, 1914 in Wellsford, daughter of Benjamin and Inex Shiell Gear. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1931 and attended Parsons Junior College for a year. She married Maynard Eugene "Gene" Stringer on February 14, 1935 in Erie, Neosho County, Kansas. The Stringers moved to Parsons in 1941. They moved to Denison in 1957. Mrs. Stringer was a housewife and helped her husband with income tax and bookkeeping service. She was a member of Waples Methodist Church of Denison, the Criterion Sunday school class and United Methodist Women. Survivors include a daughter, Pat Blaich and husband, Richard; a son, Kent Stringer and wife, Carolyn; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Stringer Tierce; 10 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy D. Gear and his wife, Elanor; and 2 sisters, Laura Welte and husband, Don; and Frances Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Max Stringer; and brother, Don Gear. The service was held in Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Bowen officiating. Burial followed in Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas. Maynard Eugene "Gene" Stringer was born July 20 , 1915, son of Elbert Harvey Stringer and Emma Alice Oler. He graduated from Galesburg High School and attended Parsons Busines College. Gene married Inez Vivienne "Vi" Gear on February 14, 1935 in Erie, Neosho County, Kansas The first 6 years the Stringers were farmers. He then went to work for the Katy Railroad in Parsons, Kansas in September 1941, moving to Parsons, Kansas in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1944 through 1945. In 1957 he was transferred to Denison, Texas by the Katy Railroad. He worked in the Stores Department and accounting department. He retired in December 31, 1976 as manager of Taxes with M-K-T Railroad. He was a member of Waples Memorial United Methodist Church of Denison, Criterion Sunday School class and was an usher for a number of years, just retiring recently. He was a lifetime member of Texoma Squares Dance Club, member of AARP, V.F.W. and NARVRE Unit 85, and National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees of which he was president for 20 years. His greatest interest was in helping and working for the good and welfare of railroad employees. He served 4 years as the National President of NARVRE He is survived by his wife of Denison; daughter and husband, Patricia and Richard; 2 sons and their wives: Max and Mary Ann and Kent E. and Carolyn; 10 grandchildren and their spouses; and 28 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Lloyd, Leonard, James and William; 2 sisters, Lillian and Leona. Funeral services were at Waples Memorial Church in Denison with Rev. Ken Hildebrand and Rev. Jalck Wallace officiating.
