Established 1948 Sylvester Clarence Shives, age 64, went home to be with the
Lord, Sunday, February 21, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Shives was born August 23, 1945 in Denison, Texas the son of Roy and Charlsie (Morgan) Shives. Sylvester married the love of his life, Wanda Oswalt Februrary 1, 1963 in Denison, Texas. Over the years he worked for the Cotton Mill, Johns-Manville and Sherman Housing Authority. He had a good sense of humor and was always playing jokes or family and friends. Sylvester also loved to hunt, fish and work on cars. But most of all he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Sylvester will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Shives is survived by his loving family, wife of 47 years, Wanda Shives of Denison, Texas; daughters, Lisa Short and husband, Todd of Denison, Texas and Martha Dobbins and husband, Doug of Kemp, OK; son, Jimmey Shives and wife, Denna of Denison, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Short, Charles Ross, R. J. Dobbins, Brittany Dobbins, Kendall Dobbins, Deanna Shives, Seth Shives, Branndon Norwood, Amber Pace, Davina Mason, Becca Torres and Clay St. John; great-grandchildren, Joshua Short, Coby Mason, Karlie Dobbins and Karson Dobbins; sister, Billie Strandlien and husband, Curt of Denison, Texas; brother, Roy Donnie Shives and wife, Peggy of Denison,Texas; mother-in-law, Fern Oswalt of Denison, Texas; sister-in-law, Marilyn Shields and brother-in-law, Billy Mitchell both of Denison, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Charlsie Shives, granddaughter, Candice Short Ross, father-in-law, Grady Oswalt, sister-in-law, Linda Mitchell and brother-in-law, Larry Shields. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Interment followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. There is no set time for family visitation. Arrangements were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 West Main in Denison.
