Dwight
Glen Sellers was born August 23, 1943 in Plover, Iowa and was raised
with his sisters and brother on a farm in rural Iowa where he learned
to cherish the earth and God’s creation. Upon graduating high school,
Dwight moved to Ames where he eventually married and operated his own
construction business. After his sons Ben and Sam were born,
Dwight returned his family to Plover, Iowa where he operated the farm
on which he was raised in order to raise his young family.
After
selling his farming operation Dwight returned to college at Buena Vista
College in Storm Lake, Iowa. He married Lynda Hyndman on May 26,
1984 and upon graduating with his Bachelor of Science degree in
Computer Science at age 40, moved to Quanah, Texas where he had been
recruited for employment by Georgia Pacific.
Dwight enjoyed a
successful career with Georgia Pacific, eventually returning to Iowa to
run the board plant in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. In 1994 he read the book, Your Money or Your Life and
awakened to the reality that his priorities were off. As a
result, he left a job which he had thoroughly enjoyed and returned to
Texas in 1995, where Dwight would tell everyone he met that although he
wasn’t born here, he had come as quickly as he could. Since then he has
used his carpentry skills and his people skills working for Valliant
Yachts, Day Manufacturing and at the Sears Repair Store in
Sherman.
After retiring, Dwight worked part-time, helping to
open the Lifeway Christian Book Store in Sherman, Texas which he loved.
Throughout it all, he used his God-given wood crafting talent to create
beautiful wood projects for friends and family which will be cherished
for years to come.
Dwight and his wife became active members of
Cherry Mound Baptist church in 1996 where he has served on the Church
Council, as a Sunday school teacher and in the sign ministry.
Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2006 and later
undergoing surgery for a brain tumor in 2007, Dwight remained active in
church until his illness precluded him from attending in December of
2015. Although confined to home and eventually his bed, Dwight
continued his involvement in God’s work by hosting weekly prayer
meetings at home where members of our church gather to pray for our
country, church and families.
Dwight passed away in his home peacefully on June 12, 2016
Dwight
