"Shorty" Parker was born in Waterloo, Alabama, son of William O. Parker and Roxie Ann Swinford Parker.  He died early Sunday at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a Tech Sergeant when he was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Miss Mary Katherine Higgins on June 12, 1946 in Luka, Mississippi.  They moved to Sherman in 1949 from Waterloo.
For more than 35 years "Shorty" was in the service station business with his brother, Dewey Parker.
He was a Baptist, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and Travis Lodge No. 117.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dewey Parker, Hardy Parker, J.E. Parker, Henry Parker, L.E. Parker; and sister, Minnie Parker.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary "Susie" Parker of Sherman; sons, E.F. Parker and David Parker of Sherman; daughter-in-law, Shirley Parker, of Sherman; granddaughter, Kimberly Parker; and brother, L.D. Parker of Florence, Alabama.
Graveside services were held at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Danny Wood of West Sherman Baptist Church officiating.  Arrangements were under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman.

SHERMAN - Mary K. Parker, 80, of Sherman, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Homestead of Sherman. Graveside services were held Wednesday afternoon, June 16, 2010, at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Al Williams officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.

Mary was born in Waterloo, Alabama, to A.Z. and Maggie Ledgewood Higgins. She married William O. "Shorty" Parker on September 28, 1929, in Luka, Mississippi. They moved to Sherman in 1949 from Waterloo, Alabama.  Mary was a Baptist.
Mary worked at Gibson's Department Store for 10 years and at Texas Instruments for 20 years, retiring in 1989. She then took oil-painting classes and loved to paint.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her. We know she is now in a better place and knows no pain.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Alvin Higgins; and one sister, Grace Higgins Hall.
She is survived by 2 sons, E.F. Parker and wife, Gerie Kay, of Pottsboro; and David Parker and wife, Shirley, of Emory; granddaughter, Kimberly Bonham and husband, Shane, of Pottsboro; 2 great-grandchildren, Blaine Bonham and Shaylea Bonham of Durant, Oklahoma; 3 sisters, Betty Briley of Savannah, Tennessee; Janice Wineinger of Sherman; and Nerva Kilbury of Berlin Heights, Ohio.

Pallbearers were Shane Bonham, Stanley Nelson, Charles Parker, Ricky Parker, and David Parker.
