Established 1948 Sherman - Graveside funeral services for Welby S. Pleasant, Sr. were Monday, September 10, 2018 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Welby Pleasant, Jr. officiated. Mr. Pleasant. 79, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center. Welby S. "Hunky" Pleasant, Sr. was born in Grayson Co., Texas December 8, 1938 to O.R. Raydell Pleasant and Mildred A. Lambert Pleasant. On February 27, 1963 he was united in Holy Matrimoney to Rose Marie Butch Brown. They were blessed with a daughter, Rosa Damar Pleasant Clark and husband, Blair; a son, Welby S. Pleasant, Jr.; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. God came first in Welby's life and he demostrated his warm-hearted and deep concern for the welfare of others. He established a strong relationship with the Grand Avenue, Wood St., Western Heights and Parkview Churches of Christ. Welby was active in the worship and the community and served on the boards of the Boys Club, Parks and Recreation, Step of Austin College, and Sherman High School. In his coaching career he won many championship game: football, baseball, basketball and soccer. He was also a coach for the S.F.D. Welby had many special friends: Minister Jerry Lawles, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Caston; Coach Clift Bryant; Honorables, David Brown, Paul Brown, Clyde Seibman, Larry Phillips,Tom Watts, and Keith Gary, just to name a few. Welby was an obedient child. His mom said he never talked back and she never heard profanity from him. He and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Rosa McDade Brown, were like two peas in a pod and he and his father-in-law, Elgie Brown, were close buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, and 4 sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his children, grandchildren; great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, a sister, and many, many friends "Welby left a rich legacy for everyone he met and knew.
