Established 1948 The Herald Democrat July 10, 2013 SHERMAN - Funeral services for Stanley F. Oakley, 87, of Sherman, Texas were held Friday morning, July 12, 2013 at the North Park Baptist Church. Rev. David Murphy of North Park Baptist Church officiated and the services were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. Burial followed at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. Pallbearers were Shawn Laney, Casey Hayes, Amy Hayes, Julie Rutherford, Brian Rutherford, Ashley Hertzog, Brett Hertzog and Gary Copeland. Honorary pallbearers were the Sherman Kiwanis Club members. Stanley passed on Monday, July 8, 2013 at his residence in Sherman. He was born July 16, 1925 in Lake Victor, Texas, son of Jess Harvey Oakley and Dorothy Nell Jones Oakley. Stanley graduated Hico High School and joined the United States Navy serving in World War II. He was discharged as a Seaman, 1st Class. He later attended and graduated from Texas A&M Class of 1950 with a Bachelor's degree in horticulture. Stanley married Betty Cloud on March 16, 15952 in La Feria. He worked as a County Agricultural Extension Agent for 30 years and retired from there. Stanley was also a partner in the Oakley Tree Farm in Sherman. He was a member of many community groups including the Sherman Kiwanis Club from 1967 to present and was president from 1975-1976; member and Board of Directors of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce; lifetime member of the Texoma Exposition and Livestock Show; National County Agricultural Agents Association; Epsilon Sigma Phi; Texas Bluebird Society; and North Park Baptist Church. Stanley is survived by his wife, Betty Oakley; 2 daughters, Sharon Laney and husband, Mike; and Marcia Hayes and husband, David; one son, Mike Oakley and Cindy Hopkins; 2 grandsons, Shawn Laney and Casey Hayes and wife Amy; 2 granddaughters, Julie Rutherford and husband, Brian; and Ashley Hertzog and husband, Brett; and one great-grandson, Ryan Casey Hayes. He is also survived by his sister, Anita Copeland; and brother-in-law, Gilbert Copeland; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Ryan David Hayes.
